Glossary of Arena Etiquette Terms

Rail: outer perimeter of the arena. (May also be called the "track.")

On the rail: traveling on the outermost path along the rail.

Going right (or tracking right): going around the arena clockwise.

Going left (or tracking left): going around the arena counterclockwise.

Outside: a relative term that means nearer to the rail.

Inside: a relative term that means farther from the rail -- towards the inside of the arena.

Yielding the rail: moving at least one horse-length to the inside to allow another rider to pass you on the rail.
